Not every plumbing company that takes on a repipe project is actually a repiping specialist. Many general service plumbers will quote a building repipe occasionally, but a multi-suite repipe demands a completely different level of planning, coordination, and experience than a typical plumbing repair.

When you’re searching for repiping specialists near you, it’s worth asking each contractor:

  • How many complete building repiping projects have they finished, specifically in rental apartments, strata complexes, or care homes?
  • Do they specialize in repiping, or is it one of many services they offer alongside general plumbing repairs?
  • Do they have their own plumbers and construction workers, or do they have to hire subtrades to help complete the work?
  • Are engineering and permits included as a standard part of their process, or treated as an additional cost?
  • Do they carry a minimum of $5 million in liability insurance and are they in good standing with WorkSafe BC?
  • Will they provide a clear, detailed estimate outlining their scope of work, materials, permits, and finishing work with no surprises?
  • Do they have the experience to identify the potential issues with the project and suggest solutions?

  • Are their plumbers journeymen or indentured apprentices?

Each type of building brings its own specific and unique challenges, and if your contractor does not have enough experience repiping your type of building, you may be faced with unexpected and unwanted extras.

Each municipality can also bring their own different requirements for the work.   You must ensure that your contractor has experience working in your municipality so they can identify potential extra work required specific to your city.  Otherwise, you could be asked to pay for required extra work not in their specification, often well after you’ve had the funding for the project approved at a strata vote.

 

The risks of hiring a contractor without true repiping specialization are real: engineering and permit gaps, installation that doesn’t meet current codes, scheduling that leaves residents without water for extended periods, unwanted extras for required work the contractor should have let you know about, and work that simply doesn’t hold up over time.

How We Minimize Disruption

Work is scheduled via special notice and is given out well in advance to the residents and off-site owners.   The work is scheduled with groups of suites, depending upon the plumbing design of the building.  Water shut-downs are kept short and communicated well in advance, and our crew protects floors, walls, and furnishings throughout every project.

 

We provide thorough clean-up each day. In every case to date, residents can stay in their suites for the entire project, and never have to move out.
